Read deeper — understand more

The AI coach guides pupils through text analysis, characters, narrative technique and symbolism. With questions — not answers.

AI asks questions instead of giving answers — pupil thinks for themselves.

Visual relationship and development maps.

Symbol analysis

Find recurring motifs and symbols with AI help.

Discussion prompts

Ready-made prompts for class talk or written analysis.

Literature coach

How it works

1

Pick a text

Teacher assigns or pupil chooses from the canon.

2

Get context

AI gives historical and biographical background.

3

Analyse together

Pupil and AI dig into character, language and symbol.

4

Write the essay

Use the AI coach as a sparring partner.

Use cases

Set texts

From Shakespeare to contemporary fiction.

Genre study

Poetry, prose, drama — all covered.

Exam prep

Train analytical methods before GCSE/A-Level.

Class novel in Years 8–10

Coach asks opening questions chapter by chapter — the pupil writes the analysis.

A-level comparative essay

Help with structure, comparison essay scaffolds and citing critical sources.

Teacher & school — two angles on one tool

For the literature teacher

The pupil writes their own reading first — then the AI opens up symbols, context and counter-readings. Never spoilers before reflection.

  • ·Literary analysis scaffolding
  • ·Character & symbol maps
  • ·Discussion prompts for the class

For the school

Work selection can be steered centrally and documented at year-group level — important for canon work and exam prep.

  • ·Work bank per year
  • ·Canon coverage tracking
  • ·Export to yearly plan

Frequently asked questions

Does the AI write the essay?

No. The coach asks questions and challenges — the pupil writes.

Does it cover the canon?

AI can analyse any literary work in English from the 18th century onward.

Which curriculum goals does the English Literature coach cover?

The coach is mapped to England's National Curriculum for English Literature (KS2–KS4 programmes of study) and AQA/Edexcel/OCR specifications at GCSE. Teachers see coverage per lesson and per year plan.

What happens to personal data in the conversation?

Every prompt is scrubbed for NI numbers, email and pupil names before it reaches the AI (our PII guard returns 422 on a hit). Nothing is used for training, and only the school admin can review prompt audit logs.

Can the teacher turn the AI coach off for individual pupils or classes?

Yes. The AI coach can be disabled per class, set or individual pupil under Productivity AI controls. Pupils then see the same workspace without the AI buttons.

How does coach activity show up in My Learning and the Gradebook?

Each session is logged on the pupil's knowledge map and can be linked to lesson preparation and the year plan. Teachers see engagement, AI use and artefacts in the Gradebook — AI answers themselves never produce a mark.
